Osgood Bradley 10 window coach B&M

In 1934 Pullman-Standard’s Osgood-Bradley plant in Worcester, Massachusets began construction of one of the first true lightweight coaches for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. These cars were used on both long distance and local trains and served well into the 1970’s. Now, on the 75th anniversary of these famous passenger cars, Rapido is delighted to offer our HO scale Osgood-Bradley Lightweight 10-window coach.

For clarity's sake, let's get the nomenclature right. Due to copyright issues, we're not allowed to call these cars by their popular name. The popular name for the cars, named after an A.C. Gilbert S scale model in the 1940s, was coined by Arthur Dubin in his book More Classic Trains in 1974. In the interests of historical accuracy, let's return these cars to their original name: they are Pullman-Standard's lightweight Osgood-Bradley coaches, or Osgood-Bradley coaches for short.

Osgood Bradley Lightweight 10-Window "Smoker" NEW BODY STYLE!!

Osgood Bradley smoker

New Haven’s Osgood Bradley Lightweight coaches #8500-8529 were unique. Each of these 10 window coaches included a separate smoking section at one end of the car for the use of those passengers who chose to “light up” in those less health conscious times! To help clear the air a special ventilation system was installed over the smoker’s lounge with a unique, large vent on the roof above.

Rapido Trains Inc is now happy to announce the upcoming arrival of our HO scale versions of the 8500 Smokers, complete with a new interior, roof hatch and vent. All cars also include full underbody detail, “Easy-Peasy” lighting, free rolling trucks, separate grab irons & details and accurate paint and lettering. Sorry, stale cigar and cigarette smell is not included….

1934. Worcester, MA. Pullman-Standard's Osgood-Bradley plant begins construction of one of the first true lightweight coaches for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of these famous passenger cars, Rapido Trains Inc. is delighted to officially introduce the Osgood-Bradley Lightweight Project, now expanded to include two of the most popular body styles!

In 2010 we delivered the New Haven and Boston and Maine 10-window coaches. Now we are pleased to announce our second Osgood Bradley lightweight body style - the Deluxe Coach. These cars were built for the Cotton Belt (SSW), Kansas City Southern and Seaboard Air Line, and went on to see service on the Southern Pacific. The major exterior spotting difference between the two car types are the rearranged window at one end behind which an enlarged wash room was located for the comfort of long distance travelers.

Our cars will feature all new bodies, roofs and interiors, both with and without interior partitions as apprpriate. Cars will be availabel fully skirted as well as without skirts to accurately match the prototypes.
